“Come to the Cross and Remember”, a musical by Pepper Chopin, will be  presented bv the Chancel Choir at First United Methodist Church on Good Friday, April 14, at 7:00 p. m.. The presentation will include a instruments, a narrator, and drama.

A project to create better parking and roadway conditions and improve drainage along E. Main St. and S. Bois d’Arc St. (FM 740) began Monday after nearly a year of planning. The project, officially known as Forney Downtown Enhancements, is expected to take from 10 months to a year to complete.

Forney Fire Station Number 2 Grand Opening

At approximately 11 a. m. Saturday, ceremonies marked the opening and dedication of Forney F9re Station No. 2 on Reeder Road. Fire Chief Rick Townsend gave the welcome and opening remarks as Master of Ceremonies and Mayor Rick Wilson also spoke.

Gateway Bridge Dedication and Ribbon Cutting

On Saturday, Apr. 1, Mayor Rick Wilson, members of the Forney City Council and various county and state officials conducted a ribbon-cutting to mark the completion of Gateway Blvd. and the dedication of Gateway Bridge. The ceremony took place on top of Gateway Bridge between 9:30 a. m. and 10 a. m.

Saturday’s Masonic blood drive a success

The semi-annual blood drive hosted by Brooklyn Lodge #386, AF&AM last Saturday at Walmart had a great turnout, according to lodge spokesman Tim Simmons.

‘Gilbert Grape’ star Darlene Cates dies at 69

Forney resident Darlene Cates, who starred as Gilbert’s mom in the film What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? died Sunday morning in her sleep, according to family. She was 69. Darlene got the role of the obese mom in “Gilbert Grape” after “Grape” screenwriter Peter Hedges saw her on Sally Jessy Raphael.

Smurfit Kappa Donates to Forney Area United Way

During the annual United Way campaign held in November 2016, Smurfit Kappa employees contributed a total of $20,660.92 to the Forney Area United Way. Another $1.000.00 was contributed to other United Way agencies in the area. All contributions were matched $1 for $1 by Smurfit Kappa.

Council tables Wynne Jackson development

On Tuesday night, City Manager James Fisher led a discussion concerning the proposed Wynne Jackson development, which will be located on the Whaley Tract. The Whaley Tract includes approximately 300 acres and is located on FM 548, across from the Greyhawk subdivision.
