During the fall and winter months when hunting seasons are underway, I try to stock my freezer with enough venison and wild pork to last throughout the summer months until those welcome cool fronts push down from Canada and it’s once again time to head to the woods.

My love affair with the largemouth bass goes back well over sixty years. The largemouth, or ‘black bass’ as we called them back in the day, was the targeted species of my mother and dad.

I grew up fishing from the banks of creeks, ponds and small rivers in northeast Texas and southeast Oklahoma. As a kid, our first boat was a little 10-foot wooden craft built by my uncle of what we then called ‘marine plywood’.
