Jackrabbits Hammer Greenville 35-0 to Remain Undefeated in District

With cool fall weather to close out the district’s fall break, the varsity Forney Jackrabbits traveled to Greenville for their Week Seven matchup against the Lions last Friday night. The Jackrabbits entered the game unbeaten in District play, and a win versus the Lions would keep Forney in the playoff picture for District 5A. With this in mind, the Jackrabbit Defense wreaked havoc all night, shutting out the Lions completely, and the Jackrabbit Offense overcame a slow start and erupted for 35 points on the night. The scoring plays for Jackrabbits last Friday night came as the result of some great passing and run plays alike. Three of the touchdowns were passes by Quarterback, Jake White, caught by Andrew Gafford, Alijah Merkson, and Ashton Ford. The two other Jackrabbit touchdowns of the night came on the ground. One rushing touchdown was the result of a Josh Stephens wildcat run. The other rushing touchdown came on a powerful run from Zach Fuller.

Return to Lake Ray Hubbard

Sitting in my truck at the dock at Chandlers Landing at Lake Ray Hubbard waiting to join guides Brandon Sargent and Jeff Bobo for a morning of catching hybrid stripers and white bass, my mind began to wander back about 55 years. I glanced back toward the dam and reflected upon the distant past when I was a teenager hunting squirrels and rabbits in a patch of woods before the lake filled. We moved from Red River County to Mesquite when I was a young teenager and a family friend introduced me to a place where I could hunt. I escaped the ‘big city’ of Mesquite by riding my little scooter with a 12 gauge single shot slung over my back.
