The last day of school is fast approaching. As usual, teachers are exhausted (Students are too) and the last day of school cannot come fast enough. After a brief respite from the classroom, teachers will begin summertime training to prepare for the next year.

I’m writing this column on this insanely busy Mother’s Day. Sequential visits with our moms meant we were looping back through Forney without a moment to spare. Our plans were dashed as we sat and watched from a quarter mile back in a long line of cars. The arms were down. The signal was flashing.

What Time Off?

Letters From the Congo

From the first thaw to the point in the summer where my lungs liquefy in the heat, I go to the park every possible day. Work projects, doctor appointments and rainy days aside, I’m there a lot. Often, I walk from my house to the park and back again, a round trip in excess of 4 miles.
