Forney ISD continues to offer free breakfast and lunch for FISD students, as well as all children 18 and under in the community. This effort to ensure local children are not left hungry in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic began in November 2020 and is set to continue through the rest of the 2020-2021 school year. This is made possible through funding from a grant by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
All face-to-face students in the district can receive free meals daily before school and during their regularly scheduled lunchtimes. Virtual students and any other children in the community can pick up breakfast and lunch each day in the form of a Grab-n-Go Meal at absolutely no cost. Grab-n-Go Meals are available for pickup at Blackburn Elementary, located at 2401 Concord St. The pickup hours are Monday through Friday, following the Forney ISD District Calendar, from 8:15 AM to 9:00 AM. Children do not have to be in the car to receive the meals.
“Forney ISD is committed to providing healthy meals for our onsite and virtual students and children in the community,” the District says. “We are grateful for our church and nonprofit partners that helped us provide community food boxes last spring and summer through our grab and go hubs, and for the Texas Department of Agriculture to help extend free meals this year to children in our community. Now, more than ever, it is important that we are able to get healthy food out to the community and support our Forney Family.”
The District has recently announced that new menu options will be available beginning February 1. Menus, as well as more information about the Forney ISD Child Nutrition Department, can be found online at www.forneyisd.net/foodservices.
