Analysis: Despite Vaccine Hopes, Lawmakers Plan For More Months of Pandemic

We’re holding two opposing ideas in our heads at the same time: The vaccines are promising, and the danger of the pandemic has never been higher.

The Spirit of Today

The ending of this year can not come soon enough for some people; such a different year than we envisioned in December, 2019. However, there have been many lessons taught by the ongoing events and some have actually been learned. We have learned that the teachers and staff in Forney ISD are an extremely resourceful and caring group of individuals since they were given a two week window to create the ‘how’ to finish the school year last spring. And then they managed to finish the year out in a pretty amazing way virtually. These educational professionals missed their students as much as the students missed them--only great teachers love their students like their own and FISD has many, many great teachers! They had driveby celebrations and socially distant visits, zoom meetings with students and other teachers, and celebrations for the end of school.

Forney Girl Scout Troop 3515 Help Feed the Homeless

Local Forney Girl Scout Troop 3515, grades 1 through 3, decided to use some of their cookie proceeds from last cookie season to feed the homeless. They made chicken salad sandwiches and packed them with chips, snacks, and a note of encouragement. They are learning about how to help change the story for those less fortunate. Their assembly line made quick time of the packing, which they did all on their own. The girls made 64 lunches in total that were distributed through Grand Prairie Homeless Outreach. These Girl Scouts believe they will make the world a better place.

Think of Cards When You Think of HALLMARK?

Until not so long ago, I resisted watching the “Hallmark” movies that my wife would select for viewing a couple hours before retiring for a night’s sleep. I consider myself a “Romantic Realist” (I know, guys, you think that is an oxymoron!) and thought that the movies began pretty well and believably but ALWAYS ended happily and somewhat predictably! As a former literature and life teacher, I just could not force myself to sit through the whole movie and then say, “Oh, isn’t that sweet?” like my “much nicer than I” wife so often does.
