Forney ISD will celebrate the Grand Opening of The Keith Bell Opportunity Central on Friday, February 2, with performances by Emerald City Band and various student performing groups. The evening will include an open house, ceremonial ribbon cutting and dedication for The OC namesake, former Forney ISD Trustee and Texas State Representative Keith Bell, and the concert. Thousands of people are expected to come and see this remarkable, first-of-its-kind campus and the opportunities it brings for career development and training, higher education certifications and degrees, and the social and economic impact of shops, eateries, event space and services available to the public. I love venison. Properly harvested, butchered, and prepared venison is my favorite meat. Do I like every venison meal I have eaten throughout my life? Definitely not! Not everyone understands how to cook or prepare venison. There are some inherent differences between venison and domestic meats. Deer meat (venison), just like beef or pork or any other meat, has to be handled properly from the time the animal is killed until it’s on the dinner plate. People often refer to that ‘gamey’ flavor of venison. A primary reason for this ‘off’ flavor comes from the fat in venison. While fat in domestic beef and pork adds moisture and flavor, leaving fat in venison is a sure-fire way to ruin even the prime cuts.

The FHS Percussion Ensemble finished the 2023 year by playing a showcase concert at the 77th annual Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago on December 22nd. The Midwest Clinic is the largest gathering of instrumental band and orchestra musicians in the world. It takes place at the McCormick Center in Chicago. To be asked to play at this event is a high honor and a once in a lifetime event for the members of the FHS Percussion Ensemble. Only 5 percussion ensembles were invited to play at this event, out of hundreds that applied and sent audition tapes.
