Celebrate National Parents’ Day: July 26

Celebrate National Parents’ Day: July 26

Finally, a day to celebrate parents of all kinds! It takes a certain willingness to choose to become a parent; a knowing that the life you are living will be forever changed. And the parents in Forney ISD are a pretty special collection. Now, we have all chuckled over the memes that showcase the “types” of parents that come through the pick-up line at school, the class parties, the sporting events, the daily office visits for forgotten supplies and lunches. However, the important thing to remember is that these parents show up for their kids because they take the “parent” job seriously.

How Consumers Can Show Their Support for Local Businesses

The road back to normalcy after the COVID-19 pandemic figures to have some twists and turns. Even after the rollout of vaccines began in late 2020, public health agencies like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization emphasized the importance of people keeping their collective guard up, as previously unseen variants of the virus were still being discovered.

What is the deal with RICK CARLISLE?

I remember the first year of the Dallas Mavericks and how ecstatic I was when I could sit out by the “wash-house” with my radio plugged into the outdoor outlet and listen to the first game of the ’80-‘81season for this expansion club in the NBA and continue to follow them for 15 wins and 67 losses that first season. Dick Motta was their coach, and Norm Sonju was the “decision-maker.” My favorite players that first year were Brad Davis, Abdul Jeelani, Clarence Kea, Bill Robinzine, Geoff Huston, and Jim Spanarkel. They were a “motley crew” (not singers), and I “loved” them and especially their coach—DICK MOTTA!

SUMMER ‘BACK IN THE DAY’

Summer is a great time to get out and enjoy the outdoors. Luke’s son in law and grandson sharing some quality time together fishing in a remote pond.

SUMMER ‘BACK IN THE DAY’

I have often visited with my grandkids about how life was in rural Red River County back in the late fifties and early sixties when I was growing up. It was an entirely different world back then, one much simpler and I guess by today’s standards, somewhat harder.

I think I mentioned last week that Mr. and Mrs. Brown had recently returned from a shared “Chuckwagon Adventure” in Logan, New Mexico, and Monday when John and I shared a few more minutes of “shooting the breeze,” he mentioned that one of his favorite “cook-offs” is held there, and it is called “Canadian River Renegades Chuck Wagon Cook-Off” and is held at Ute Lake State Park in Logan during March each year. The profits gained from the event are given to graduating seniors in the form of college scholarships.

Alpha Tau Officers Attend Delta Kappa Gamma State Convention

The Texas State Delta Kappa Gamma Society International 92nd Convention was held in Denton, Texas, June 16th through 19th, with the theme of “Unlock the Possibilities,” and the officers of Alpha Tau, the Kaufman County chapter, attended! “I must admit that I was a little apprehensive and not really looking forward to a convention. In the past, conventions have been drudgeries—totally feeling like wastes of time, due to required classes that did not pertain to me. However, I must admit again, this was not the case at the DKG convention this June. It was filled with excitement, love, and some “aha” moments! I enjoyed each day and each moment!” shared Vivian Themer, President.
