The Scoop
The Layden Senior Citizens Center of Forney would like to welcome you at 101 Main Street in City Hall, open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please enter the front or through handicap-accessible doors located at the back of City Hall, where reserved parking for seniors is also available.
The center is a non-profit organization, and we work on donations. Therefore, all are much appreciated. “It is every man’s obligation to put back into the world at least the equivalent of what he takes out of it.” –Albert Einstein The center is very thankful for our generous donors: Chickfil- A, Smurfit Kappa, Papa John’s Pizza, and our Bingo sponsors: Alinea Hospice and Cheyenne Medical Lodge, each of whom contributes weekly prizes. We invite you to frequent them whenever you can.
There are always meaningful activities happening at the Center, in addition to our regularly scheduled fun ones as follows: Bingo on Mondays, Fridays at 10:00 Bridge club on Tuesdays, Thursdays at 12:30 Noodle Ball or crafts on Tuesdays at 10:00 Movies on Thursdays at 10:00 You can often find other fun games going on too: Hand and Foot, Mah-jong, jigsaw puzzles, and 42 (dominos).
We also have a Father’s Day luau on Thursday, June 12, complete with a hula dancer!
On Wednesday, June 11th, was our monthly Covered Dish luncheon. The Center provided chicken, rolls and gravy from Bush’s. Everyone brought their favorite side dish or dessert.
If there are activities you would like to have at the Center, please contact our Director, Danielle.
If you do not already have a copy of the current June calendar, be sure to pick up your copy next time you are at or nearby the center, so you do not miss out any of your favorite and/or new activities.
If you are 60 or older and want to join us for lunch at noon, please either drop by or call 972-552-6690 to sign up by 10:30 a.m. In addition, breakfast at the center is 8:30-10:30am.
It bears repeating how important it is, if you plan to eat lunch each day, please sign up by 10:30 at the latest. A good idea is to look at each week’s menu and sign up early, so you don’t worry about forgetting and there is always enough food for everyone to eat. Life happens, so if you forget to sign up for lunch by 10:30, notify Danielle when you arrive and go to the back of the line.
Summer is the season nobody can stop talking about, and for good reason. It’s the season of hot days, cold drinks, beach trips and barbecue. It might get hot as all get out, but most are happy as larks when it arrives with a sultry vengeance. Turns out, we aren’t the only ones. Summertime has inspired plenty of literary quotes, song lyrics, and general ruminations to last all season long.
“She was sipping on Southern and singing Marshall Tucker. We were falling in love in the sweet heart of summer.” –Florida Georgia Line “Summer bachelors, like summer breezes, are never as cool as they pretend to be.” –Nora Ephron “I know I am but summer to your heart, and not the full four seasons of the year.” –Edna St. Vincent Millay “Summer romances end for all kinds of reasons. But when all is said and done, they have one thing in common: They are shooting stars, a spectacular moment of light in the heavens, a fleeting glimpse of eternity. And in a flash, they’re gone.” –Nicholas Sparks
