Eric Stewart, a proud Forneyite, was born May 4, 1966, and passed on to Heaven on April 9, 2025, in Austin, Texas, where he had been employed with U. T. Austin Admissions, and as a fulltime Youth Pastor at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Elgin, TX, and most recently at Realtor.com. He intentionally pursued activities, such as being a Deacon, a Sunday School Teacher, and a choir member, that helped him and others grow closer to God and to “walk in faith.” His degree from U. T. Austin was in Journalism, and I was not surprised, since he was always a good writer and communicator as a stuin dent in Forney Schools.

Eric had a host of relatives and friends in Forney and many other places and seemed to never meet a stranger! I still can see him in my mind as a Forney High School student, when he took on the role of Mr. Themer. As soon as Eric walked out onto the stage with brief case in hand and that “funny Themer walk” in an assigned English Class play (drama) he helped to write, the entire audience gave him an ovation. And English IV would not have been the same without the trio of Donny Willett, Chris Kirk, and Eric Stewart, who paid their favorite teacher (me) a final visit at his house on Pacific Street before they left for college! Also, I was not surprised to hear that the final two hymns at his funeral were two of my all-time favorites: “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “How Great Thou Art!” Eric was truly “one of a kind!” He will be greatly missed!
