We frequently dine at local establishments as we take “daytrips” as often as possible! Recently, we travelled all the way to Downtown Forney, Texas, and found ourselves a little tired and hungry and not really wanting to drive much farther than we already had, as we sat in a parking spot along Trinity Street almost to Bois d’Arc Street and noticed how nice and inviting Bell Park looked to the right.
I will mention that we were also very close to an establishment by the name of “STASH’S” and that Weston and Katie had more than once told us, “You ought to try out an eating place here in Forney in the last commercial building before you reach the park…..and be sure to try their Brussel’s Sprouts and homemade sandwiches!”
So, without more ado, we walked up the steps, looked at/through the plate glass window, and went inside. And the first things we saw were shelves of books, which made sense, since STASH’S TABLE & FABLE has a “subtitle”…..A LIBRARY BISTRO.
Robert and Paula Neely, according to their business card, are owners, and the exact address is 212 Bois d’ Arc, Forney, Texas. I am pretty sure that the building was once owned by the Blackburn family (maybe still is) and not too long ago housed “Crumbs,” which was known for its “crumb cakes” and light lunches.
As we looked around the kitchen and dining room, we saw the owners and workers, who looked like “country folks,” who would fit right in with the average Forneyites, such as Don and Vivian Themer and the crew with which we travel!
Ordering is at the counter from menu postings on the nearby walls, and the cashier was ready to make suggestions and to explain the standard operations of their business. She was very patient with us “newcomers.”
After mentally digesting the suggestions and descriptions, we decided to order and to share—Brussel Sprouts with garlic salt, fresh parmesan, and balsamic glaze—Side Salad with mixed greens, parmesan, red onion, and parmesan dressing—Classic BLT with thick bread (Texas toast), generous bacon, spring mix, tomato, and maybe something more which I cannot recall—Elote Cup (Mexican corn with seasonings)—soft drink (soda).
I probably have not done justice to this menu recounting,
but take my word for it, we had plenty to share, and it all tasted GOOD!
People who came in while we were there seemed at ease, and all seemed pleased with what they were served…..and the diners were diverse!
We will certainly go back and try more of the offerings and maybe even read parts of some of the book offerings in big shelves along the southwest wall. And, I am already trying to imagine the Smokehouse Burger, the Pimento Bacon Burger, the Pulled Pork Sandwich, and the Charcuterie Salad (wondering what the chef picks to serve)! And, I will save room for the Tiramisu, which seems to have more ingredients than I remember from what I ate years ago!
O. K. I will close before I talk myself into driving to STASH’S right now and eating an afternoon snack that might ruin my supper! Hope to see you there in a few days.
