Trinity Valley Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Iota Alpha Chapter proudly returned from the 2025 Catalyst International Convention on April 3 – 6 in Kansas City, Missouri, with multiple honors.
Highlighting the trip, Iota Alpha was honored with the prestigious Honors in Action (HIA) Project Award, a recognition given to only 50 chapters out of approximately 700 submissions worldwide. This award was presented during the final Awards Gala. Additionally, the chapter earned a place among the Top 100 Chapters internationally based on their combined Honors in Action and College Project scores.
“We are so proud of our students, who spent countless hours working collaboratively on their HIA and CP entries,” exclaimed Athens Campus PTK Advisor Nancy Long. “Their dedication, research, and teamwork truly paid off.”
The chapter’s success at Catalyst follows a strong showing at the Texas Regional Convention earlier this year, where they earned one of 17 Top Texas Chapter Awards, Awards of Merit for both Honors in Action and College Project, the Five Star Chapter Award, and Hall of Honor recognition for Chapter Officers Ruby Brand and Seth Pineda.
PTK’s Catalyst Convention is the society’s largest annual event, bringing together thousands of top-achieving students from around the world to celebrate academic excellence, leadership, and service. For the first time, students from the Terrell branch of Iota Alpha Chapter contributed to the competitive project entries, working alongside Athens Chapter President Ruby Brand. Terrell’s delegation included PTK President Luis Guardado, Vice President Seth Pineda, members David Onuorah, Nalanie Torres, Jaylen Thomas, and Kelly Baker from the Terrell Health Science Center’s PTK branch. Advisors Long and Rose Shirey (Terrell) accompanied the group. Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the international honor society for two-year colleges, offers qualified students at TVCC the opportunity to gain recognition, access scholarships, and engage in meaningful service and leadership activities. Membership in PTK connects students to a broader network, including local, regional, and international chapters.
