Forney ISD’s Indoor Percussion and Winds programs made history this weekend at the North Texas Colorguard Association (NTCA) State Championships, hosted by Forney ISD at the OC. All four ensembles captured first-place finishes and set new records along the way.
“These unprecedented scores don’t just represent competitive success,” said Mario Luna, Director of Fine Arts. “They reflect the artistic growth happening within our walls every day.”
The Forney ISD Middle Schools Percussion performed their 2025 production, “The Tides of Triumph,” earning a season- high score of 92.95 and securing the NTCA Percussion Cadet Championship.
The North Forney Indoor Percussion performed their 2025 production, “Momentum.” Their score of 92.75 clinched their 8th consecutive NTCA Championship.
The North Forney Indoor Winds delivered a performance of their show “Sanctuary,” earning an unprecedented score of 89.46—the highest Winds score in NTCA history—and taking home the NTCA Winds Scholastic Open Class Championship.
“This was a landmark moment for our programs,” said Jim Gist, Director of Bands at North Forney High School. “Our students have put in countless hours of dedication, and to be recognized at this level—especially while hosting the largest NTCA Championships ever—is something truly special.”
The Forney High School Percussion brought high energy and visual impact with their 2025 production, “Hypnotica.” Forney Percussion captured its first-ever NTCA Percussion Open Class Championship with a record-breaking score of 89.95 “I could not be more proud of the students’ hard work, dedication to excellence, and incredible musical artistry on display throughout the season culminating in the championship on Saturday,” said Cody Newman, Director of Bands at Forney High School. “Their devotion to each other is what is most notable - these students, parents and directors are like a family — an inspiring family!”
These achievements mark an incredible milestone for the district and its music education programs—highlighting the talent, discipline, and creativity of Forney ISD students and staff.
