It is incredible to me to realize that Flower Basket has been in Forney since March 26, 1994, creating custom flower arrangements for the people in Forney. And it is also incredible to realize that the Forney Education Foundation has been in Forney for over 20 years now.
The parallels between these two are many. George Brown had a dream to create a group that could help the students in Forney ISD, and I had a dream to bring a full-service florist to Forney to serve the Forney community. Both of these entities enjoy hearing about the future of the students in FISD. As a Board Member, I ask how the grants that are funded will help with the students in that respective class. As the person helping students with their floral choices, I ask what their future plans are in order to learn a bit about them, making it somewhat easier to determine how I can advise what their choice could be. (Truthfully, I enjoy visiting with these young adults. The future is bright!) And being on the Grant Committee allows me to see how deep thinking the educational professionals in Forney are when it comes to the futures of their students. As a member of the board since 2006, I have seen many amazing changes in the district from the number of schools to the student population to the various curriculum offerings now available.
So, here is your opportunity to wish 2 different local, hometown entities “Happy Anniversary”. This past year, Flower Basket moved locations back to Pinson Road – the street where we began – and have been enjoying once again meeting new people who have chosen Forney for their home. You should visit www.forneyisdfoundation. org and see how easy it is to participate in the futures of the forward-thinking students and teachers in Forney ISD!
