Every time there is a winter weather watch or warning, school districts go into “do we cancel? mode”. I also have to make the decision to open or close depending on the weather. Many people may complain about the closures, but I applaud the decision to err on the side of caution. The community that is Forney ISD is composed of not just the students that live in the district but all of the staff that live in and out of the district. The logistics of parent transport and the bus transport with ice accumulation a possibility as well as travel time for parents coming back to the schools to pick up their students must be factored into the decision. So, thank you Dr. Terry for making the choice for student safety as the most important factor.
The culture that has been created in Forney ISD is definitely a nurturing one for the students. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to volunteer at the various campuses to add to the best educational experience for their children. And the efforts by the volunteers in Forney ISD add so much to the learning environment that every class is elevated.
The Forney Education Foundation understands how important additional touches can add to the classroom environment, which is why the teacherrequested grants are so important. The Grant committee knows this as well, which is why they are so dedicated to choosing the best requests to fund. The students in Forney are just like snowflakes – unique, different, sparkling, complex. Won’t you help us make the best choice for our students and highlight their uniqueness?
