October ended with the first day of the Grant Train rolling through the northside of town, and November began with the Grant Train rolling through the southside much to the delight of all of the teachers who had grants funded. And the Forney community stepped up as well by adopting several grants! And for those still wondering about the Adopt-A-Grant, it remains open until December 31.
There were 52 grants awarded totaling $124,143. Grants were funded at every campus and were as varied as the students that attend them in the best way. One of the most rewarding aspects of the Grant Train days is getting to connect with these teachers and their students. And these kids make it worth it! Heartfelt hugs and smiles that are as wide as the horizon greeted the Board members that attended. And FEF even got to attend the pep rally at Forney High and present to the 3 teachers there in front of the whole school and the parents that were in attendance since it was the pep rally for senior night.
The grant requests ranged from digital pianos to more supplies for the after-school clubs, to novels for an entire elementary school to read and study. There were teachers that requested items for financial literacy and guided reading and math, equipment to help students write their thoughts and a mannequin named “Cuff Man” for the law enforcement career track. And the STEM class received kits to help foster their skills, and one of the art teachers will be able to really help their students make wearable art in the form of jewelry and other art items and items to help the Gifted and Talented students to keep them engaged in the learning process.
Here is your chance to get aboard the Grant Train! Please visit www.forneyisdfoundation. org and see the grants that are still available to be adopted. The opportunity will be available through to December 31, 2024!
