A shaft of sunlight breaking through the tree canopy. A flashlight cutting through the darkness. A lightning strike illuminating the rainstorm. Here at FEF we know how dramatic a little illumination can be. That’s why the logo for the Forney Education Foundation is a torch and why our motto is “lighting the way for teaching and learning.” Many times, we describe comprehension as a “light bulb moment” as the student’s face literally lights up when they learn something new. Our FISD teachers strive to have as many light bulb moments as possible in their classes--they know that affirmation from their students means that the lessons they are teaching are getting through to their students. And they also know that at the Foundation we’re here to help make those lights go on.
One of the many ways that the Foundation creates “light bulb moments” is through our Teacher Requested Grant program, where our educational professionals ask for tools that they know their students need. Some of the best days that the Foundation experiences are the days that the Grant Train rolls through Forney ISD and teachers get surprised by the Foundation’s gift-- often with their principal and fellow teachers there to watch them shine. The Grant Committee members also have their own “light bulb moments” when the teachers explain the whys and hows of their grants and the expected impact on their students.
Since 2008, the Foundation has awarded more than $1,050,000 to Forney ISD teachers and staff members to fund innovative programs for their classrooms. And right now, the Adopt-a-Grant window is open, which allows you, our Forney Family, to choose and fund a teacher’s requested grant.
