.....Not Much Has Changed!
Body

When I was a little boy and afraid of the big rides at amusement parks and especially at The State Fair of Texas, I had one ride that I “loved”.....the Merry–Go– Round! I liked the music, the lights, the “bench-type seats” that did not move, the horses that were fixed in single spots on poles along one side, and especially the horses that went “up-and-down” by way of a special jointed contraption that went up-and-down and round-and-round. For a long time, that was the only ride I would patronize–not even the other rides that were called “kiddie rides” by my little friends. I rode the “merry-go-rounds” long after my friends had turned their backs on them and had begun to ridicule me for being such a “scairdy cat.”

Well, 10/4/24 was a great day in my recent life, as my wife and I rode what is now most often called a carousel, and I picked out the largest horse on a “jointed” pole and went up-and-down to my heart’s content–I even rode “one-hand-off-the pole!” And it was made even better as I waved proudly to the “girl of my dreams” on another horse nearby! I loved the FAIR even more this year!
