A clean slate is an interesting item to contemplate. Is it clean because it has never been used, or is it clean because it has recently been washed? And since chalkboards, i.e. “slates”, are really no longer used in classrooms, today’s students will probably never realize how satisfying it can be to wet clean a chalkboard instead of just erasing it, just like they will never know the chore of taking erasers outside and pounding them to remove all the chalk dust.
But they can experience the satisfaction of completion when they finish a big project for class or turn in a carefully written essay or submit a project that has taken weeks to create from scratch. The Forney Education Foundation knows firsthand the joy that comes when a task is completed-the Board experiences that emotion when the Grant Train rolls through Forney ISD and the teachers receive their requested grants. The educators in the district have done their “homework” and have thought earnestly about what can enhance the learning experience in the classroom. When they submit their grant request, the vetting process begins ensuring that the request matches the goals and objectives of their campus. Afterwards, the grant request goes to the committee, and before the committee meets to review and select, the public gets the first opportunity to select a grant to adopt, i.e. Adopt-A-Grant. This program has been very successful so far since it enables more grants to be funded.
The window for Adopt-A-Grant will be opening soon--be on the lookout for the announcement. Helping educational professionals enhance their students’ learning is one of the biggest “whys” that FEF does what it does. The opportunity to give a clean slate to a student awaits you--please visit www.forneyisdfoundation. org and see how easy it is to complete this important task!
