District Attorney Erleigh Norville Wiley announced today the conviction of Joseph Adrian Garcia, age 44, for Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit Murder, a first-degree felony offense. On September 2, 2022, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Kaufman Police Department received a 911 call from a concerned neighbor in the City of Kaufman who reported that she was observing a male subject yelling and screaming while trying to break into a nearby residence’s front door with a pickaxe. Investigation established that Garcia was under the influence of suspected narcotics while breaking into the residence and had been threatening “I will kill you” to any individuals he had contact with including the matriarch of the residence and her two small children, ages 6 and 8. On August 15, 2024, at the conclusion of a three day jury trial, the jury responded with a swift guilty verdict and a punishment sentence of 50 years imprisonment. Prosecution was led by Assistant District Attorneys Alysia Huskey, Leslie Odom, and Taylor McConnell, Investigator Walter Hughey, and Paralegal Reyne Huerta. The District Attorney’s Office would like to thank the Kaufman Police Department and Sergeant Ryan Wagner for their work investigating this case.
