State Representative Keith Bell (R-Forney) was appointed Chair of the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission. Established in 1977, the Commission is a critical oversight body that enables the Texas Legislature to evaluate state government agencies systematically.
Twelve state agencies are currently up for review, including the Texas Lottery Commission, Department of Information Resources, Department of Criminal Justice, and Ethics Commission, among others, scheduled for evaluation this cycle.
During his tenure on the Sunset Advisory Commission, Representative Bell took the lead in implementing significant reforms to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) in the 88th Legislative Session through Senate Bill 1397, which Governor Abbott signed into law on June 18, 2023.
“I’m honored and appreciative for the Speaker’s confidence entrusted to me with this opportunity,” said Representative Bell. “This commission plays a pivotal role in reducing governmental red tape. I am committed to improving agency effectiveness and efficiency for the State of Texas.”
State Representative Keith Bell represents Kaufman County and North East Henderson County. He serves on the House Committees on Environmental Regulation, Land & Resource Management, Local & Consent Calendars, and the Select Committee on Educational Opportunity & Enrichment.
