As our once-quiet little town of Forney is transitioning from what some called a “sleepy bedroom community” into a highlysought- after suburb of Dallas that is busting at the seams, City of Forney officials, along with boards like the Economic Development Corporation, are working hard to attract more restaurants and retail to sustain this unprecedented population growth.
Recently, City Hall revealed several bigname businesses that are expected to soon be joining the amenities in the area, specifically in the Villages at Gateway. This development will cover around 150 acres near North Gateway Boulevard and U.S. Highway 80, and shoppers were thrilled to learn that major retailers like Target, HEB, and Home Depot will serve as anchors in this area.
As if those names were not enough, there are more businesses, retailers, and restaurants that have plans on the Forney horizon.
The City’s latest announcement is generating a lot of buzz, as the most recent retail brand to drop in town is none other than Costco Wholesale Corporation.
After the Forney City Council voted on a Chapter 380 Economic Development Agreement for this development at their July 16 meeting, a statement from City Hall on July 22, 2024, read: The Forney City Council has approved the negotiation and execution of a Chapter 380 Economic Development Agreement with Costco Wholesale Corporation. This agreement will allow for the development of a Costco at HWY 80 and FM 460, providing residents with convenient access to Costco’s renowned selection of quality goods at competitive prices. Additionally, this development will create numerous local job opportunities and drive significant economic growth in Forney.
The City of Forney and Costco Wholesale Corporation intend to share more developments about this project soon.
