The fourth grade leadership group at Griffin Elementary has been chosen as a Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA) Leadership Award Recipient for 2023-2024.

A few of the projects the group has completed this year include greeting fellow students upon arrival to school each day, conducting tours for new students, leading the Griffin Rallies as the “hype team,” organizing Red Ribbon Week, and fundraising in order to make a donations to Forney Animal Shelter and Forney Fire Department.

“Student leadership teams play a critical role in modeling civic engagement on their campuses,” TEPSA Executive Director Harley Eckhart said. “We are proud to recognize these teams for their student-led initiatives and the positive impacts they’ve made on campuses throughout the state.”

Counselor Lauren Buerck and Principal Kristie Crabtree manage the group of 12 students, who were all nominated by their teachers and completed an application and interview process.

“I do not know what we would do without our Griffin Leadership team,” Crabtree said. “They constantly bring a positive vibe to our campus and are always willing to come up with new ideas on how to support our school and our community.”
