During his second DWI, police dash camera catches then-prosecutor Harrison pressuring arresting officer to let him go by flashing his official District Attorney badge

Dallas County has released official prosecution records showing Rick Harrison has been arrested and convicted multiple times for driving while intoxicated. His most recent conviction came when he previously served as Kaufman County district attorney after he crashed his car into another vehicle as he drove the wrong way on a one-way road.

Harrison and conservative Joseph Russell are the two candidates in the GOP runoff for Kaufman County Court at Law. The runoff election day is next Tuesday, May 28.

The arrest report for his latest DWI shows then-DA Harrison pressuring the arresting officer to let him go by flashing his official District Attorney badge. Below is an excerpt from the police report: “The driver (RICK HARRISON) continued to fumble with his wallet and stated to Officer Burt, while holding his wallet open and displaying his badge, “are you seeing this”?

Officer Burt advised the driver that his badge was irrelevant at this point, which the driver handed Officer Burt his Texas Drivers’ License.

Officer Burt obtained the subject’s drivers’ license and took the driver’s wallet and placed it on the roof of the driver’s vehicle. Officer Burt asked the driver if he knew he was driving on the wrong side of the roadway and he stated “no” … Officer Burt while speaking with the driver continued to observe him sway back and forth while seated in the driver’s seat.

Officer Burt asked the driver to stand up and when he did the driver lost his balance and fell back onto the open door frame of the vehicle.

The driver had difficulty standing and once standing stumbled and was unsteady on his feet. The driver had to use his vehicle by placing his hands on his vehicle to keep his balance.

Due to the driver’s apparent intoxication level no field sobriety tests were administered for fear that he may fall and injure himself. Officer Burt placed the driver (RICK HARRISON) into custody for investigation of Driving While Intoxicated.”

Harrison released a campaign video explaining his DWI arrests shortly before holding a high-dollar fundraiser with Dallas criminal defense attorneys at a bar near downtown Dallas.

Harrison’s campaign has been forced to respond to several issues in recent weeks. Previously, Harrison acknowledged in his campaign finance report that many of his contributions come from Dallas attorneys who have funded efforts for Joe Biden and Barack Obama. These same contributors have also funded or led efforts to defund the police and open our borders to illegal immigration.

In addition, the release of Kaufman County records has shown that while serving as DA from 2007- 2010, Harrison allowed multiple defendants with charges of sexual assault of a child to be reduced to less serious charges resulting in no jail time and no requirement for the defendant to register as a sex offender.

Kaufman County law enforcement leaders have been critical of Harrison after he was caught boasting on his law firm website that he helped a client charged with Possession of Child Pornography have his criminal case dismissed on a technicality, despite admitting his client had 16,000 images of child pornography on his home computer.
