An amazing 20 years has flown past since George Brown approached five like-minded individuals in Forney to help him create the Forney Education Foundation. Known originally as the Forney Education Leadership Foundation, the symbol was a key representing how to achieve the future: continuing education post high school. As the years have unfolded for the Foundation, the Board shortened the name and developed a mission statement that says we are to provide opportunities for excellence in education, promote innovation in teaching, and partner with the community to enhance the quality of education for all students. The vision for the Foundation is stated as, “Lighting the way for teaching and learning at Forney ISD.” And that is why the symbol for FEF is now a torch that contains a stylized “F” as the flame. The logo was designed by Kody Kasper, a 2010 graduate of Forney HS and a 2014 graduate of Southern Arkansas University with a degree in Graphic Design. She worked with the committee that was charged with the task, listened to their thoughts about what the Foundation meant to them, distilled all of it, and created the logo in use now. Her design was very well received as it is easily recognized, innovative, and functional, much in the same way that the teacher-requested grants are also functional and innovative.
The Class of 2024 from Forney ISD has benefitted from the support that FEF has given to the teachers in the district. As a member of the Grant Committee, it is very inspiring to see where the teachers want to steer their classes toward innovative learning. No one knows what those students need better than the teachers and parents, and it is rewarding to see how that partnership creates a successful outcome. Many of this year’s graduates have either taken dual credit college classes, passed certifications for various careers, and/or received their associate degree from Dallas College Eastfield. These students have risen to the challenge of creating their future.
None of this happens in a vacuum. Without support from family, teachers, and community members, many of these dreams would still be in phase and not complete. The Foundation knows we cannot do our mission without help from the Forney Community.
