Seniors
The Layden Senior Citizens Center of Forney would like to welcome you at 101 Main Street in City Hall, open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please enter the front or through handicap- accessible doors located at the back of City Hall where reserved parking for seniors is also available.
The center is a non-profit organization, and we work on donations. Therefore, all are much appreciated. As President George H.W. Bush said, “There could be no definition of a successful life that does not include service to others.”
The center is very thankful for our generous donors: Panera Bread, Smurfit Kappa, Papa John’s Pizza, and our Bingo sponsors: Alinea Hospice, Cheyenne Medical Lodge, Empower, Rely On Credit Union, and Oak Street Health, each of whom contributes weekly prizes. We invite you to frequent them whenever you can.
There are always meaningful activities happening at the Center, in addition to our regularly scheduled fun ones as follows: Bingo on Mondays, Fridays at 10:00 Bridge club on Tuesdays, Thursdays at 12:30 Line Dancing will revert back to Thursdays at 10:00, effective 5/1/24 Noodle Ball on Tuesdays at 11:00 Crafts on Thursdays at 10:00 You can often find other fun games going on too: Hand and Foot, Mah-jong, jigsaw puzzles, and 42 (dominos).

If you do not already have a copy of the current May calendar, be sure to pick up your copy next time you are at, or nearby, the center, so you do not miss out on any of your favorite and/or new activities.
If you are 60 or older and want to join us for lunch at noon, please either drop by or call 972-552-6690 to sign up by 10:30 a.m. In addition, breakfast at the center is 8:30-10:30am.
Please, if you plan to eat lunch each day, sign up by 10:30 at the latest. A good idea is to look at each week’s menu and sign up early, so you don’t worry about forgetting and there is always enough food for everyone to eat! Of course, also remember to sign yourself in for breakfast, if you choose to eat. Thank you!
With May comes Cinco de Mayo. When you think of it, several things probably come to mind, such as tacos, guacamole, drinks, etc. But there is more associated with this day. Cinco de Mayo is a holiday celebrating a day nobody saw coming. On 5/5 in 1862, Mexico’s small army of 2000 soldiers did the unthinkable and won against 6000 French troops during the Battle of Puebla. Years later, in 1915 after the Mexican Civil War ended, many Mexican families came to the U.S. to start fresh. When that happened, Americans were introduced to Cinco de Mayo by their Mexican friends and neighbors.
