The Scoop
The Layden Senior Citizens Center of Forney would like to welcome you at 101 Main Street in City Hall, open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please enter the front or through handicap-accessible doors located at the back of City Hall where reserved parking for seniors is also available.
The center is a non-profit organization, and we work on donations. Therefore, all are much appreciated. As Pablo Picasso said, “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”
The center is very thankful for our generous donors: Panera Bread, Smurfit Kappa, Papa John’s Pizza, and our Bingo sponsors: Alinea Hospice, Cheyenne Medical Lodge, Empower, Rely On Credit Union, and Oak Street Health, each of whom contributes weekly prizes. We invite you to frequent them whenever you can.
There are always meaningful activities happening at the Center, in addition to our regularly scheduled fun ones as follows: Bingo on Mondays, Fridays at 10:00 Bridge club on Tuesdays, Thursdays at 12:30 Line Dancing on Wednesdays at 10:00 *(must confirm the day before) Noodle Ball on Tuesdays at 11:00 Crafts on Thursdays at 10:00 You can often find these fun games going on as well: Hand and Foot, Mah-jong, jigsaw puzzles, and 42 (dominos).
On Tuesday, 4/23, at 10:00, we had Bunco, a lot of fun! On Wednesday, 4/24, we donated to the Food Pantry and Animal Shelter.
If there are activities you would like to have at the Center, please contact our Director, Danielle.
If you do not already have a copy of the current April calendar, please be sure to grab yours next time you are nearby the center, so you do not miss out any of your favorite and/ or new activities.
If you are 60 or older and want to join us for lunch at noon, please either drop by or call 972-552-6690 to sign up by 10:30 a.m. In addition, breakfast at the center is 8:30-10:30 a.m.
Please, if you plan to eat lunch each day, sign up by 10:30 at the latest. A good idea is to look at each week’s menu and sign up early, so you don’t worry about forgetting and there is always enough food for everyone to eat! Of course, also remember to sign yourself in for breakfast if you choose to eat. Thank you!
Did you know Monday, April 22 was Earth Day? It is a day where humans everywhere take a minute to be grateful for our planet and the amazing natural resources we’ve benefitted from thus far. It’s also a day where we do our best to make sure future generations can continue to enjoy those resources. Maybe you unplugged the television, rode a bicycle to town instead of the car, perhaps planted a tree, or made more of an effort recycling.
It was started in 1970 by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson, after he noticed people protesting the Vietnam War but not putting pressure on the government about the damage being done to the planet via contaminants like oil spills, pesticides, and deadly smog.
