For the tenth consecutive year, Forney ISD has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education.
The Best Communities for Music Education designation is given to school districts that have “demonstrated outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students.”
Mario Luna, Director of Fine Arts for Forney ISD, answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by the Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
The Best Communities for Music Education designation is now in its 25th year. 975 school districts were selected in the United States, with 108 being from Texas. 37 districts were selected from the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and, out of the 975 districts, Forney ISD was one of 245 in the United States to be selected for receiving this award for ten years or more.
