“Anyone who does anything to help a child in his life is a hero.” - Mr. Rogers Opportunities to help a child cross our paths every day, and choosing to act on them elevates our lives in so very many ways. One of the personal benefits to serving on the Forney Education Foundation Board of Directors is being given that opportunity to help every child in Forney ISD. The tradition of the Foundation has always been to help the students in Forney ISD, starting 20 years ago with an idea from founder George Brown. After he shared it with the other founding members, they came together and literally put their money together to form the basis of FEF.
The first beneficiaries of the help were high school graduates in Forney ISD to assist with college. Soon, the monies went to help with trade schools, then dual credit scholarships. Teacher-requested grants were added into the mix, and the help then moved to all grade levels. Dallas College stepped up when they saw what the District was doing and stepped in to provide college classes at reduced rates. This allowed the Foundation to add reimbursements for CTE certifications and AP tests to the offerings given to the students in FISD.
The Foundation also now has the ability to sponsor more events during the year that directly impact all the students in the district like STEAM camps in the summer, Antlers and Tu-Tus Fun Run in December, the annual Blackland Prairie Film Festival on May 10, and new this year, the Glow Run on May 4. The Foundation also started sponsoring Project Backpack in 2023 that assists students with backpacks and school supplies as needed.
FEF understands that children need help yearround, and that is why we never really stop telling our story so others can help us help them.
