Every third Thursday in March is Absolutely Incredible Kid Day. This holiday was created in 1997 by Camp Fire. Every year, millions of people write and/or tell a young person in their life why they matter and what makes them amazing.

The history of Camp Fire’s beginnings mirrors a lot of the ideas behind the Forney Education Foundation. Founded in 1910, Camp Fire was the first multiracial, multicultural, and non-sectarian organization for girls before women even had the right to vote. Coed since 1975, today it welcomes all young people. Camp Fire’s programming has lifelong benefits by supporting young people on their journey to be their very best selves. Their councils teach social-emotional skills in a wide variety of settings and use different themes and approaches.

The Foundation has had many opportunities to witness the absolutely incredible kids that make up Forney ISD when the Grant Train rolls through the district as well as when the different FEF sponsored events occur. And the teachers in FISD are absolutely incredible, too!

When the Board has the opportunity to meet teachers and hear their stories about why they chose education as their profession, it makes their mission even easier to explain to people who haven’t yet heard about the Foundation’s mission. Once the “why” of FEF is told to someone, their enthusiasm for the mission that the Foundation endeavors to complete is palpable as I personally have witnessed.

So here is your opportunity to stoke the fire and tell the kids–and teachers–how absolutely incredible they are. Please visit www.forneyisdfoundation. org and help fill the wood box to keep the fire burning!
