Full Moon Crazies

Is there any truth to things being crazy during the time when the moon is full? It sure seems to ring true for my world. I was just wondering if there is any science to this surprising chaos.

Dear Full Moon Crazies,

I have also wondered this same thing. It has always surprised me because I don’t really follow the cycles of the moon. When things are seeming especially wild, I check and 9 out of 10 times, voila, Full Moon.

Ah, the full moon. It's the stuff of legends, myths, and, let's face it, excuses for all sorts of odd behavior. We've all heard the tales: Emergency rooms are busier, police stations are overwhelmed, and generally, the world seems to tip a little towards the wild side. But let's break it down with a little Aunt B wisdom, shall we?

First off, scientifically speaking, there's no concrete evidence that the full moon actually affects human behavior. I know, I know, it's a bit of a letdown. Studies have looked into this and found no significant connection between the lunar cycle and human behavior. So, why the persistent belief? Well, it's a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy. We expect things to get a bit wild during a full moon, so we're more likely to notice and remember when strange things happen during this time. It's like when you buy a new car and suddenly start seeing that model everywhere. They were always there; you're just tuned into it now.

But let's not let science take all the fun out of it. The full moon has always been a symbol of mystery and intrigue, and there's something kind of magical about looking up at that big, bright orb in the sky and feeling a connection to the unknown. Maybe it's a good time to tap into that sense of wonder and use it as an excuse to shake things up a bit in a good way. Have a moonlit dance in your backyard, write a poem by moonlight, or just take a moment to gaze up at it and marvel at the universe.

Now, if you're feeling a little extra edgy around the full moon and you're looking for ways to stay grounded, there are a few things you can try. First, stick to your routine as much as possible. Routine can be incredibly grounding. Make sure you're getting enough sleep, eating well, and getting some exercise – these things keep your body and mind in check. Also, practice some mindfulness or meditation. It's amazing how a few minutes of deep breathing and centering your thoughts can bring you back down to earth.

Lastly, why not use the full moon as a reminder to check in with yourself? Every month when that moon gets big and bright, take a moment to reflect on the past month. What went well? What could have gone better? What do you want to focus on for the next lunar cycle? It's a natural marker in time to pause and reset.

In short, while there's no scientific proof that the full moon turns the world topsyturvy, it's a powerful symbol in our culture and can be a great reminder to stay grounded, reflect, and maybe indulge in a little moonlit whimsy. After all, life's too short not to howl at the moon once in a while!

Love,

Aunt B
