Welcome, 2024! As the newest year in recorded history, the World says, “Hello!” The image of the beginning of the new year as a newborn baby and the end of a year as a bearded, old man really is fitting this year for a lot of people, me included! There have been many events this year that have tested the mettle of the people involved and, so far, they have not been bested! Hospitalizations, job opportunities, marriages, births, even deaths have impacted the Foundation in 2023. And from these events, strengths and resolve have revealed themselves to the different Board members of the Forney Education Foundation.
Our members have used these personal events to encourage themselves to continue the good works that have been the hallmark of FEF. And every time they have shared the story of their personal “Why” they believe in the Foundation, whomever they are visiting with sees their passion and is usually moved to help with the mission of “Lighting the Way for Teaching and Learning.”
There were many bright moments in 2023 – in the Spring, a great turnout honoring the Teachers of the Year for each campus as well as the announcement of the District Teacher of the Year added to the fun of the Wranglers and Rhinestones casino night and auction supporting FEF. In May, another year of the Blackland Prairie Film Festival occurred with some amazing films produced by students in Forney ISD. Then two of the best days in the school year happened as the Grant Train rolled through the District in October. This year’s funding for the teacherrequested grants resulted in 66 grants being fulfilled in the amount of $123,891.36. And then ending the year, the 5th Annual Antlers and Tu-Tus Fun Run occurred with a record number of participants.
And I would be remiss if I didn’t thank you, dear readers, for coming along for the ride every week and the Forney Messenger for letting FEF tell you about our adventures in this column every week and sharing our good news.
