Nearly a dozen local families will have a merrier Christmas after attending a Christmas Store given for them on December 16 by a Forney nonprofit and two area churches.

The Door Life and Pregnancy Center of Forney organized the event for its clients and their children. Talty Baptist Church hosted the Store, assisted by many volunteers from their own congregation, from The Door, and from Calvary Baptist Church of Seagoville.

Individuals and church groups from across the community provided both money and gifts to make the Store a success. Toys, clothing, baby equipment and bicycles were among the many gifts purchased and donated by volunteers. Parents, who are all clients at The Door, shopped for their children’s Christmas gifts at no cost.

Talty Baptist volunteers provided the families handmade pizzas for lunch. Children and teens were treated to crafts, stories, and pizza, and were guided in shopping for their parents. Calvary Baptist donors gave stockings filled with candy to each of the 28 children present, as well as stockings of personal care items and gifts to each parent. All the shoppers received free gift wrapping, as well.

Volunteers helped to set up the store, visited with attendees, served lunch, cared for children while parents shopped, wrapped gifts, carried packages to cars, and cleaned up the space afterward.

The Door Executive Director Vonnie Salguero welcomed clients and their families, and Pastor Lyle Wallace of Talty Baptist gave a brief message of encouragement.

“I know our families at The Door were blessed by this assistance during the holidays”, said Ms. Salguero. “We’re delighted with the way our Christmas Store came together, and very grateful for the spirit of love and community support that made it possible.”

The Door is a faith-based nonprofit organization that provides supportive services to pregnant women and those directly impacted by their pregnancies.
