The Layden Senior Citizens Center of Forney welcomes you at 101 Main Street in City Hall, open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please enter the front or through handicapaccessible doors located at the back of City Hall, where reserved parking for seniors is also available.
The center is a non-profit organization, so we work on donations. However, if you are unable to donate, please do not let this prevent you from attending the center to eat and/or join in on the many fun festivities. Everyone is appreciated!
The center is very thankful to our generous donors: Panera Bread, Flower Basket, Papa John’s Pizza, and our Bingo sponsors: Alinea Hospice, Cheyenne Medical Lodge, Empower, Rely On Credit Union, and Oak Street Health, each of whom contributes weekly prizes. We invite you to frequent them whenever you can.
Be sure to pick up your copy of the January calendar so you do not miss out on all the joy and love in our community. Many thanks, as always, to our dynamic Director, Danielle, who always strives to ensure there are plenty of meaningful activities to participate in.
On Friday, 12/29, we will have fun celebrating at the Center with friends and family as we usher in the New Year. After all, it will be midnight somewhere!
Of note, with 38 different time zones in use, it takes 26 hours for the New Year to encompass all time zones. Did you know the first will be Christmas Island/Kiribati in the East, at 4:00 am local CST, and Baker and Howland Islands in the West, will be the last?
No fireworks? The Quadrantids meteor shower is active around New Year’s Eve, so you can also celebrate the New Year with a natural fireworks display! What are your favorite New Year’s traditions? Many watch the Times Square Ball Drop, light sparklers, kiss at midnight, make a toast, play and sing Auld Lang Syne, take a polar bear plunge, and make noise with banging pots and pans. For fun, check out these six New Year’s Eve superstitions that reportedly will increase your chance for travel in 2024, according to Pop Sugar.
“Run around the block with a packed suitcase. If you’ve ever spent New Year’s Eve in a Latin American country, you know you can see more than a few people carrying a suitcase around the block when midnight comes.
Run seven times around the house, fast. Write it down. It helps you commit. Put travel at the top of your list and you’ll be good to go.
Grab a chair, an umbrella, and a suitcase. New Year’s Eve is the one time that having an open suitcase inside the house is actually considered good luck.
We cannot talk about the New Year without discussing resolutions. There are many to be had. Some people commit to them, whereas the luster is soon lost for many.
According to Wikipedia.org, the top 5 resolutions are: Improve physical fitness, lose weight, save money, pursue a career ambition, and spend time with family.
“New year, a new chapter, or verse, or just the same old story? Ultimately, we write it; the choice is ours.” –Alex Morritt “There are far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” –C.S. Lewis “Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365-page book. Write a good one.” –Elite Daily “What the New Year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the New Year.” –Vern McClellan
