280 local families in need received a Thanksgiving-themed meal box

On Saturday, November 18 the Forney Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Forney Education Foundation, provided Thanksgiving meal boxes to 280 families in need through counselor referrals from Forney Independent School District. The meal boxes were distributed at Kroger Marketplace in Forney who teamed up with the Forney Chamber of Commerce and their member partners to make this opportunity possible. The meal boxes included Thanksgiving dinner themed food items such as a frozen turkey, dressing, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, dinner rolls and more.

“The Forney Chamber and our partners desire to make an impact in our community,” said Jessica Browning, Forney Chamber of Commerce Board Member and Chairman of the Annual Turkey Drive. “Thanks to our members’ generous donations and the partnership with Kroger Marketplace, we were able to provide a Thanksgiving meal for more than 280 families.”

“We are absolutely blessed to have an abundance of Chamber Partners and community members that see the value in giving back to Forney families,” said Meg Adams, Forney Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Director. “It’s definitely a labor of love organizing a food drive of this magnitude, but we were met with nothing but support along the way. We had so many local businesses donating turkeys, holding food drives to supplement our meal boxes, volunteering their time, and allowing us the space to get it all done. I am thrilled we were able to feed approximately 280 families, and know we couldn’t have done it without the help of everyone who pulled together this year.” In October, the Forney Chamber of Commerce started soliciting sponsorships from Chamber partners for the Turkey Drive. Those sponsorships combined with generous donations of Thanksgiving sides from Kroger Marketplace and their customers covered all the needs to complete the Thanksgiving meal boxes. Partner businesses and individuals generously contributed more than $10,000 to purchase the food items.

The Chamber and the Forney Education Foundation had the help of dozens of volunteers for this year’s campaign, including the Forney High School baseball team, cheerleaders, and senior class, North Forney High School football players and coaches, Atmos Energy, and Nav Central & Medical Jets International to solicit contributions from Kroger shoppers, pack and distribute the meal boxes.
