I have known of Mr. Ed (Eddie) Whittemore for many, many years, going back to when I was a little league baseball player, who watched the Forney High School Baseball Team play on the Legion Field. One of my favorites to watch was the guy they called, “EDDIE” or “WHITTEMORE.”

He was not a “giant” like Martin Popp by any means, but he could “slap” that ball–all the way out into left field and over the road for a home-run more than once!

And, I am pretty sure he was on the school newspaper staff and also wrote articles for the Forney Messenger back when Mrs. Mc-Cain and her Mom, Mrs. Yoe, were in charge! Maybe this helped him to be later selected for membership in the Forney Ex-Students Association Hall of Honor in 2013!

Graduating from FHS in ’60, he moved on to a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from UNT and then a CPA Certificate from SMU’s Southwest School of Banking–these leading to 21 years of being a Vice-President of Greenville Avenue Bank, while also being the husband of Kay and the father of Michelle and Kevin.

And, I know that Mr. Whittemore was a long-time member/diligent worker in Forney’s 1st United Methodist Church (Board Chairman and Congregational Treasurer), and he stayed involved with the Forney Community as President of the Ex-Students Association and Forney’s “Hillcrest Cemetery” for years and years and was responsible for many upgrades in the Cemetery’s workings.

Eddie is a long-time staunch supporter of UNT activities and especially FOOTBALL. All 3 of my boys graduated from UNT, and we have often seen “Whittemore” at the Homecoming Game, whether the team was winning or losing, but this year, I had heard that my good buddy was not well and might not make the game. I was sad to hear that news but later ecstatic to look down to the seats a ways down from the Themer family to see–YES– Thomas Edward Whittemore, Jr. and his son and a very good, long-time friend climbing to their seats and cheering wildly during the game. Here’s a “HATS OFF” to you, my friend!
