The Forney High School Band placed 4th in the State UIL Marching Band Finals Competition on Tuesday night November 8. This was the 4th time that the band has made it to the UIL Finals. 4th place is the highest rating the band has ever received. The band went into the finals after achieving a 5th place spot in the State 5A Prelims on the previous night. There are 252 5A high school bands in Texas. In the State Finals, the top 12 of 5A bands compete.

One of the areas the bands are scored on is percussion. When looking at the various ratings that are added to get to the final score, it should be noted that the FHS percussion section received a rating that gave them the number 3 place among 5A Bands in the State.

On the previous Saturday the band competed in the Bands of America Super Regional Competition. This competition is considered the most competitive marching competition in the nation. The FHS band placed 18th out of 65 bands. This was also the highest ranking the band has achieved at this competition.

This year’s presentation theme was “In the Arena”. The march to the “In the Arena” presentation started with FHS Band Camp the day school was out for the summer, as 98 new freshman joined the FHS Band. In various ways the band members worked through the summer to achieve excellence. When school started in the fall, the band members’ days started with a 6 am rehearsal each morning before school. During October there were several State UIL and Bands of America Competitions. When they marched into the Alamodome the students were prepared to meet the final challenge “In the Arena” of State Competition.

Congratulations to Mr. Cody Newman, Director of Bands, his staff, the student leaders and the band members for a job well done!
