Forney’s First Presbyterian Church is proud to introduce Mideum Chung as our new Worship Accompanist. Mideum began her service at the church in September, playing the church’s newly acquired Steinway piano (Model B, 1994). She can be heard in person at 10 am Sundays at the Presbyterian Church on FM 1641 and anytime on the church’s YouTube channel.

Mideum began her musical journey at the age of five. She graduated from Daejon Art High School in Seoul, Korea. She earned her Master of Music from the University of Florida and her Doctorate in Music from Florida State University in May 2023. She has experience playing at festivals and competitions as well as in churches. She is proficient in playing classical pieces as well as jazz, gospel, and church hymns and praise songs.

In addition to being the church accompanist on Sundays, Mideum teaches piano during the week. She has her own private piano students, teaches at Rockwall School of Music, and is an adjunct piano faculty at a local community college. Her goal is to be a Professor of Piano at a nearby college, but always wants church music to be a part of her life.

Mideum means “faith” in Korean. Her name is pronounced in two syllables – “Meed-um” and sounds like “need ‘um.” She believes the accompanist position at the Presbyterian church in Forney is a “profound answer to my prayers.” In her faith statement, she wrote, “I want to keep learning from God and spread His love and good news. I hope to help people who are hurting and need support. My future holds more learning and helping others. In this journey, I believe that God is guiding me, loving me, and using me for His purpose.”

Not only is she an exceptionally gifted pianist, but she also chooses beautiful arrangements of classic hymns and is an attentive accompanist to the church’s soloist, Stephanie Hardin. Mideum and her husband David live in Rowlett.
