“Halloween, a day when we get it right. Strangers come to us beautiful, ugly, odd, or scary, and we accept them without question, compliment them, treat them kindly, and give them good things. Why don’t we live like that?” –-Steve Garnass-Holmes This sentiment for Halloween is also shared by Public Education. Every child that lives in a school’s district is welcome to their school without question. By law, they are placed in the classroom and given tools to learn no matter what extra help they might need. That is the beauty of the Public Education system in America– every child who comes to the door gets a seat and an education.
The Forney Education Foundation exists because every student deserves a great education. As George Brown, the visionary behind FEF, has often stated, “We can give them a hand up and they will do great things.”
Fifteen years ago, the Foundation launched the teacher-requested grant program wherein the teachers in Forney ISD research new ways to illuminate learning in the classroom. Through the years, FEF has funded ceramic kilns for the middle school art programs, autopsy mannequins for the medical track program, classroom libraries for SPED classrooms, and many, many more “extra treats” for the classrooms of Forney ISD.
Won’t you join us in the Adopt-A-Grant Program? The window to adopt a grant or add to future grants is open until November 17. The opportunity to add the “treats” on top of classroom learning is within your reach. Please visit www.forneyisdfoundation. org to see how easy it can be to add that little extra to the learning environment in Forney ISD.
