The magic of a playofflike atmosphere filled the air as the Falcons took on Mesquite Horn for their first district appointment of the 2023 season. The Falcon offense struck gold on the first play from scrimmage to McCoy, who would go 80 yards for the first score of the night. The offense would score two more times, once on the ground by Andikan Asuquo and once by a sweep pass from Sanders to Isiah Mayfield.
“The special teams really didn’t show up focused,” said Special Teams Coordinator Mike Idleman. “The only real standout was Senior LB and special teams player Koali’l Tauiliili, Jr. who had two big return-saving tackles. We had a bad snap on a PAT, a missed FG from 20 yards out, a 2-point safety because of a snap over the punter’s head, and a missing outside contain man on kickoff late in the game almost cost us the game,” said Idleman.
The special teams play was not very special and must improve if the win streak is to continue, but the defense was outstanding. DC Gordon Booker said he was very proud of the kids and their execution. “We had a good week of practice and a good game plan.”
Head Coach Eric Luster said, “I really wanted this one and the kids came through. We have been winning since this summer, and I think people are starting to notice that we play pretty good football at North Forney.” The defense held Horn to just 14 points with outstanding play by Caleb Holt with the game winning INT on the last play of the game. The Falcons had 3 red zone and goal line stands, 1 fumble recovery and 1 INT to total 5 turnovers.
The Falcons host Royse City this week on Friday night at 7 pm. Come on out and help the boys go 6 and 0. It’s a great day to be a Falcon!
