It was a big night for the Falcons as they were looking to get to that 4-win spot for the first time since moving to 6A. The offense didn’t disappoint, scoring 46 points. Tamarion Crochett had another great game, going 10 for 16 for 201 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Falcons’ rushing attack added its contribution of 23 rushes for 167 yards.
Top flight players were Isiah Mayfield who had 3 catches for 103 yards, Sanders had 3 catches for 47 yards, and 2 catches each for McCoy with 39 yards and Etier with 19.
It was the 17 penalties that really got at Head Coach Luster. “We like to play fast, but penalties just continued to slow us down. And two turnovers didn’t help either,” he said. Even though there were struggles, the Falcons continued to fight their way through.
The defense had a great night, holding Wilson to 170 yards total offense. Stand out play by defensive ends Jeremy Mathews and Christian Gilbert helped contain another elusive QB. The defense had two takeaways, one by Dylan Glassper an interception in the end zone and the other by Larry Wesley. DC Booker said, “The defense had a solid night, but it’s a process and we have to continue to get better.”
Special teams had its ups and downs. On one hand, the Falcons had 125 yards by Robinson on returns, but on the other hand, they had a 54 yard return called back and a return for a touchdown called back. To add to the frustration, the PAT unit had two blocked and one low kick. Coordinator Idleman said, “We have to play much better. This was our biggest let down of the year and we will get it corrected.”
Even with the rough edges, the Falcons held the Wildcats to their own 26 while the Falcons started on the plus 48. All three phases need to be ready for this week as the Falcons go to Horn for their first district game. It’s a great day to be a Falcon, so come out and support the Falcons as they attempt to go 5 and 0 and 1 and 0 in district play.
