The Falcons faced the Rowlett Eagles on Thursday night, winning convincingly 42-14. Head Coach Eric Luster said, “This was a true team when. All three phases played well and were able to overcome a game time change by the Eagles.” The game was set for 7:30, but for unknown reasons the Eagles changed the start time to 7:00. The entire warm up session for the Falcons was totally disrupted.
Defensive Coordinator Gordon Booker said, “It was great to achieve most of the defensive goals, which was a complete bounce back from our lack luster play of week one.” The Falcon defense held the Eagles to only 261 yards total offense, caused two fumbles, and had two interceptions by safety Caleb Holt, one of which was a 50-yard return for a touchdown.
“Our third phase, special teams, really had an impact as well,” said Special Teams Coordinator Mike Idleman. The kickoff team was led by kicker Jake Guardiola, and special teams standout was Elijah Ferguson. Guardiola was 7 for 7, while Ferguson led all special teamers in tackles including an outstanding tackle on the Rowlett 5-yard line. The kickoff team forced two fumbles but did not recover either of them.
Stand out #11 Koko Robinson had a great night with 151 total return yards, including his longest of the year for 80 yards to the Eagles’ 3-yard line.
Overall, a nice team win. The Falcons host the North Mesquite Stallions on Friday night this week. We would like to invite all of you out to help the Falcons go 3 and 0. Remember, it’s a great day to be a Falcon.
