Seniors

The Layden Senior Citizens Center of Forney is located at 101 Main Street in City Hall, open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Please enter at the front or through handicap accessible doors, located at the back of City Hall. Reserved parking for seniors is available 9:00-2:00.

Our Center is a non-profit organization, so we work on donations. All are greatly appreciated. We can often use volunteer drivers for meals on wheels delivery as well.

Maya Angelou said, “When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.”

We so appreciate our generous and consistent donors: Panera Bread, Papa John’s Pizza, Smurfit Kappa, and our Bingo sponsors, Alinea Hospice, Cheyenne Medical Lodge, Empower, Rely On Credit Union, and Oak Street Health. A very special “Thank You” to Edward Jones Investments for providing our Birthday cake each month and to Twyla Choate for providing our birthday flowers. We invite you to frequent these wonderful businesses as often as you can.

Be sure to grab your copy of the new September calendar so you do not miss out on any of the fun and meaningful activities our illustrious Director, Dena, always strives to plan/coordinate for us.

Please make a note the Center will be closed for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 4.

Our regularly scheduled activities are as follows: Bingo Mondays, Fridays at 10:00 Bridge Club Tuesdays, Thursdays at 12:30 Noodle Ball Tuesdays at 11:00 Line Dancing Thursdays at 11:00 You are invited to join us for breakfast weekdays at 8:30 and lunch at 12:00 noon, lovingly prepared by Danielle and Dena.

When unable to attend meals at the Center, check out this week’s recipe for simple, nutritious meals for seniors: https://www.aplaceformom.com/caregiver-resources/articles/ easy-recipes-for-senior-nutrition Our northeast Texas temperatures have been sweltering, and the next few weeks’ forecast do not show signs of lowering much below the 100s, so it is crucial to stay out of the heat as much as possible! Of course, drinking plenty of fluids is the most significant way to avoid dehydration. Keep a water bottle on hand to make this even easier for yourself. Although it’s been frequently said to drink eight glasses of water a day, you may need to drink more, or less, depending on your body’s needs. Pay attention to your doctor’s specific advice for you, especially if you have a kidney or other health issue that may limit your intake.

Soups, broths, and watery vegetables, such as cucumbers, can be helpful, but if you have health issues as above, strive for low sodium and follow your physician’s directions.
