Representative Keith Bell was appointed to the new House Select Committee on Educational Opportunity & Enrichment along with 14 other House members.

The committee is created to consider issues and matters that broadly affect educational opportunities for K-12 students in Texas. This select committee is tasked with making recommendations in regard to three specific mandates: (1) Ensuring all Texas youths enjoy equal educational opportunity and the freedom to obtain a quality education, regardless of circumstance; (2) Improving outcomes for Texas public school students and meaningfully supp o r t i n g educators and educational institutions; and (3) Mode rnizing assessment and accountability measures for Texas schools educating K-12 students.

“Texans have long recognized the significance of educ a t ion in empowering future generations with better oppor tunities. We understand that a welle ducated population is the foundation for a prosperous future. In order to ensure the success of young Texas students, it is crucial for parents to actively engage, stay informed, and actively participate in their children’s education,” stated Bell. “I am eager to collaborate with my fellow legislators during this interim period, and I am grateful to Speaker Phelan for entrusting me with this significant committee appointment. Together, we can make meaningful strides towards enhancing education in Texas.”

The committee is expected to have an initial report submitted no later than August 11, 2023. This report will include a comprehensive list of choices available to K-12 students in Texas and feature options for providing additional educational opportunities.
