The snap of a flag flying in the wind makes a crisp sound. The applause at the end of a performance makes a thundering sound. And the movement of students leaving a school hallway at the end of the day creates a fading-to-silence sound.

It has been said that the laughter of children makes for a happy noise and when there is learning attached to happy noise, the learning is better retained. The teachers who apply for the grants from the Forney Education Foundation understand the power of happy noise on effective learning. There have been many, many grants awarded over the years. Some may seem to not create happy noise due to the nature of what is asked for by the grant recipient. However, good teachers really understand that learning is a step-bystep building process.

Not all learning leads to creating a college ready student, and we at FEF know that’s okay. There are three types of students that graduate from Forney ISD---College-Bound, Learn & Earn, and Career-Ready. College-Bound students are those that are enrolling in either a 2-year or 4-year college upon graduation. Learn & Earn are students that need to earn money to pay for their college career. And Career-Ready students are going into the workforce full time upon graduation. Since Forney ISD and Dallas College Eastfield joined to implement dualcredit classes, students can earn college credits while they are still in high school. Students can complete an associates degree while still in high school, which represents an average savings of $26,000 compared to a four-year university, and this year, 2022-2023, there were 13 students who achieved this feat!

Forney Education Foundation has learned from Forney ISD’s example that many small amounts combined together create multiple, powerful opportunities for students.
