Final Show of this 20th Anniversary Year
Body

New Orleans jazz music greeted the audience after a short video showing what is in store for next season and an admonition to “buy your season passes early!” And take my word for it, and my wife’s if you don’t believe mine—Next season appears to possibly be even better than any other, and that seems almost impossible!

About 40 years ago, the beginnings of this amazing band arose at Arizona State University, and they were determined to center their efforts upon the traditions of early New Orleans jazz. And today, the Side Street Strutters continue their efforts to expand their offerings and to continue to perfect their music and showmanship of classic American jazz.

This group has performed in all 50 states and close to a dozen countries. They have produced recordings, been featured at festivals, won awards, and participated in “premiers.”

I am old and not even much of a “jazz” fan, but Harry and Georgia, Micky and Dana, Don and Vivian, and the fest of the house full of “young-at-heart” E! Terrell subscribes had a night to remember as we clapped and stamped to familiar tunes, sang along with the band, and even had some tears in our eyes as we realized the season was over! And, when Meloney Collins came on stage to add her “sassy, sultry, soulful” voice, the crowd erupted into even louder applause!

All too soon, the intermission came…..and then the conclusion! It was a night to remember and one to whet our appetites for next season. And, you know what? I am even “kind of” a jazz fan now!
