Forney ISD has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for the 9th year in a row. This acknowledgement is for being amongst schools and districts of innovation and for developing a strong presence for music education on campus and within the community.
To qualify for the Best Communities designation, the District answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas. This year, the NAMM foundation recognized 743 districts in the United States with 92 of them coming from Texas.
“It is a remarkable achievement for the district to receive this honor for its ninth straight year,” said Mario Luna, the Director of Fine Arts for Forney ISD. “Forney ISD continues to find ways to provide exceptional programs and offer opportunities in music education for all students.”
According to the NAMM Foundation, music education plays an important role in students’ creativity and supports their emotional health and well-being as they build connections through music activities.
“The Forney ISD administration, Board of Trustees and the community of Forney continue to show tremendous support for music education programs,” Luna added. “Our students are constantly working to improve and lay the groundwork for future Forney ISD musicians!”
Since the passage by Congress in 2015 of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the ESSA provides designated funding for well-rounded educational opportunities through Title IV Part A Student Academic Success and Achievement grants. NAMM Foundation research has revealed that these grants are being widely used by school districts to address instructional gaps in access to music and arts education.
The NAMM Foundation is a nonprofit supported in part by the National Association of Music Merchants and its approximately 10,400 members around the world. The foundation advances active participation in music making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving and public service programs.
