The Forney Historic Preservation League met recently to cover light agenda items and to plan for the future and was called to order by President, Debbie Stuart. Charles Beason gave the invocation, followed by Secretary Jana Garner’s report of minutes (approved unanimously) from the previous meeting. Treasurer Donna Hervey’s report was next discussed and approved unanimously with one slight correction of an item’s date.
Members present were Charles Beason, Tracy Drane, Donna Hervey, Lawrence Higgins, L. C. Randolph, Debbie Stuart, Don Themer, Rick Townsend, Margaret Tull, George Venner, and Museum Manager Kendall Nobles. Absent were Andy Parker, Fran Jones, Bill Crawley.
Museum attendance has been good, especially during the “Spring Break” week, and Denise Costello, the new Assistant to the Manager, has worked out well; the North Forney Art Show has been “up and running.” Two new window displays are now in place and look good! We are looking into adding more travelling exhibits for the coming year. We are looking into National Volunteer Month opportunities and also for possibilities beyond that activity.
Our new DEFIBRILLATOR has arrived, and we hope we never have to use it…..but we want to be prepared!
President Stuart informed us that documents from the Forney Hillcrest Cemetery Association had been received and would be placed into the “archived” area.
Founders’ Day activities planning is still going strong, and plans are progressing for the “Historic Homes Tour.” (June 10) The TRUST report from Committee Chairman Venner shows improvement, and financially all is well.
We are working to finalize the Summer Members Meeting and will have more information later.
COLLECTIONS COMMITTEE MEETING—We viewed items from the following families: Harwell, Henderson, Stewart/ Cawthon, Beddow (from old Pinson items), Beason. We were pleased with the offered items and are making plans for their present/future uses.
The meeting was adjourned on a motion by Lawrence Higgins, and the Collections Committee moved to the adjoining room to view “new” items.
The Spellman Museum of Forney History is open Wednesday through Saturday and is free of charge. If you have never visited, please accept this invitation. If you have been before, we would love to see you again! Please also consider becoming a “supporting” member.
Finally, please contact Kendall Nobles at the Museum and/or view our web site for other information. Thank you!
