New Assistant Museum Manager Employed
Body

The Forney Historic Preservation League Board Business Meeting was called to order by President, Debbie Stuart, with a quorum present. (Members present: Charles Beason, Bill Crawley, Tracy Drane, Jana Garner, Donna Hervey, Lawrence Higgins, L. C. Randolph, Debbie Stuart, Don Themer, Margaret Tull, George Venner—Members absent: Fran Jones, Andy Parker, Rick Townsend—Museum Manager present, Kendall Nobles) The invocation was prayed by George Venner.

Minutes from the previous meeting, current Treasurer’s report, and Museum Manager’s report were all presented by Garner, Hervey, and Nobles and approved as stated.

Committee reports and Old Business concerned the following: “Forney Founders Day” moving forward, and dates have been confirmed, including the following areas of upcoming work—“Old Forney Traditions,” possible press releases, Historic Homes Tour, Historical Marker brochure/walking tour, fundraising possibilities to consider.

Hoping to possibly “highlight” the Museum during upcoming days with “old cars,” fire truck(s), various activities, possible auction.

Making progress with our web site and want to update and enlarge “old photos” sections. Reeves Henry Marker project is still “on track,” but we have been given no firm timeline.

British Flight Museum in Terrell periodically has public presentations and has recently featured “Rosie the Rivetter.”

New MUSEUM ASSISTANT has been hired—DENISE COSTELLO, whose parents were both born in Forney—Jackie Pippins Costello and Dennis Costello, who had brothers, Bill, Tom, and Pat (long-time Forney historian). As you can see, we have just added much actual Forney history to our town and staff and are looking forward to calling upon the new Assistant’s knowledge and interest in our city. I hope to have more information about Denise and Family in the next article about Museum Business and the Board Meeting.

General Notes: Museum visitation during the previous month was 104. Gift Shop Sales were $108.00. The BLACK HISTORY art exhibit and night meetings were again well-received and successful. DISASTER PLANNING continued with much progress with more meetings planned. Founders Day planning continued with a meeting with “Ricky” of Forney Parks and considered ideas for reviving “old Forney traditions,” such as “Jackrabbit Stampede,” “chili cook-off,” “pie/desert contests,” antiques and dealers, and “chuckwagon” possibilities for the upcoming celebration(s).

The meeting concluded with various informal discussions and a look at donations of items for possible inclusion in the Museum.
