Good News: “Student Athletes continued their EXCELLENCE in the CLASSROOM during the first semester of this school year as many competed in the NCAA Division I and the Southland Conference for the first time. The ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.25, marking the 14th consecutive semester the Athletic Department has had a grade point average above a 3.00!”

“Student-Athlete success is our #1 priority, as we strive to prepare our young people for success academically and in life as future leaders. The Lions succeeded in elite levels with nine sport programs recording grade point averages of 3.00 or higher.”

INDIVIDUALLY, 41 student- athletes were named to the President’s List, achieving perfect 4.00 grade point averages, and 47 were named to the Dean’s List, achieving grade point averages between 3.50 and 3.99. And Lion Athletics celebrated 23 Graduates during the 1st Semester Graduation.

Lion Athletics Hall of Fame announces Induction Class of 2023 2006-2007 Women’s Basketball Team, who advanced to the “Elite Eight” Round of the NCAA Tournament Lauren Flynn, who is the only “1st Team All-American” in Lion Volleyball history Sharon Scurlock Berryman, who helped lead the Women’s Tennis Program to an appearance in the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Division II Tennis Championships Anthony Brooks was an All-American for the Football Team and the 1992 Lone Star Conference Offensive Back of the Year.

Billy Minor (1989-1992) was a two-time All-Conference wide receiver for the Football Team.

A&M-Commerce University Stands Out in NATIONAL Rankings…..U. S. News and World Report recognized “our college” as “TOP 100” in several coveted categories regarding our nation’s best “On-Line” Academic Programs—36th of Graduate Criminal Justice Programs, 49th of Bachelor’s Programs, 60th of Graduate Business Programs, 66th of Bachelor’s in Business Programs, 97th of Master’s in Education Programs, 110th of MBA Programs.

Among these 6 on-line categories, A&M-Commerce averaged 70th in the Nation, up very much from last year’s already high average of 81st!

FOOTBALL RESULTS (1st year in Division I) The Lions finished 3 wins vs. 3 losses in Conference play and 5 wins vs. 6 losses over all this 1st year in the Southland Conference. Several games were “nail-biters,” and next season looks to be one to remember!

Lions vs. Lincoln (Califor-nia)….. Won, 52—7 Lions vs. Tennessee Tech…..Lost 25—26 Lions vs. Sam Houston….. Lost 17—27 Lions vs. North American….. Won 63—3 Lions vs. Southeastern Louisiana…..Won 31—28 Lions vs. McNeese….. Won 40—15 Lions vs. Houston Christian….. Won 31—3 Lions vs. Incarnate Word…..Lost 7—35 Lions vs. Northwestern State…..Lost 14—41 Lions vs. Nicholls…..Lost 10—12 Lions vs. Tennessee State…..Lost 14—22 BASKETBALL results to this point (nearing the conclusion of the seasons) are as follow: Men, 9 Wins and 9 Losses in Conference play; 13 wins and 19 losses over all.

Women, 12 Wins and 18 Losses over all; 10 Wins and 8 Losses in Conference play. Harry and I believe that the competition this season was taller, faster, quicker, and rougher than we have ever seen it before, and we predict that the Lions will be back on top, or at least near, next season. Go, LIONS!
